WesselWitsWessel Wits is appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Design, Production and Management at the Faculty of Engineering Technology. He is coordinator of the Design Engineering master track and responsible for safeguarding the consistency of design-related modules and courses throughout the Mechanical Engineering programme. He teaches several design courses at the bachelor (BSc), master (MSc) and post-master (PDEng) levels. Courses that vary from machine component and construction design to modelling of technical design processes.

Physics in Design and Manufacture

Within the Department of Design, Production and ManagementDr. Wits has a research focus on Physics in Design and Manufacture. From an engineering perspective, successful product development is constantly challenged by considering novel technologies. For design engineers this requires both a thorough understanding of the underlying physics and physical phenomena, and a systematic way to transfer this knowledge to the product level. To better facilitate this, design support tools are researched specifically for the early stages of Engineering Design, the concept development phase.

CIRP, the International Academy for Production Engineering

Since 2016, Dr. Wits is an Associate Member of CIRP, the International Academy for Production Engineering. Before his current membership he was a CIRP Research Affiliate from 2009 to 2015..

University College Twente (ATLAS)

Additionally, Dr. Wits is a Core Lecturer at the University College Twente (ATLAS), an international BSc honours programme for top students integrating both social and technical perspectives into a new engineering approach. With the college Dr. Wits is responsible for the learning line Design and active in the curriculum development. He is also member of the Examination Board.
